Rock, Crow sign to play baseball at USF
By From staff reports

University of Sioux Falls head coach Matt Guiliano announced the signing of the 2012 baseball recruiting class. The Cougars have signed eight players, that includes two from Brandon Valley, to letters of intent, all of whom will graduate from high school in the spring of 2012.

“As our first true NCAA DII recruiting class, we are extremely excited about the potential that we have in this first group of recruits,” said Guiliano, who is in his fifth season with the Cougars. “We have a very good mix of positions and guys that are expected to come in ready to earn a spot in the lineup.”

“We still have a long ways to go to round up this class as a whole, but we feel that we could not have gotten off to a better start,” he added.

This class is highlighted by Trae Russell (Ralston Valley High School, Arvada, Colo.), Trevor Crow and Dylan Rock, both of Brandon Valley High School.

USF's signing class, which addressed needs at every position group, includes two pitchers, three infielders, two outfielders and a utility player. Four of the prospects are from South Dakota.

The Cougars signed a pair of right-handed pitchers in Rock and Matt Thomas of Brookings, who will also see some playing time in the outfield.

As a junior, Rock (6-foot-0, 175 pounds) earned all-region and second team all-state honors for the Lynx. He went 1-0 (2.33 ERA) in 22 innings, allowing 14 hits and 13 walks with 30 strikeouts.

Last month, Rock was named by ESPN High School as one of the top 20 players in the state of South Dakota.

Rock is a former teammate of USF sophomore pitcher Derek Fischer.

“Dylan has some raw talent on the mound that, with some work, could help us out right away," Guiliano said.

Another Brandon Valley product, Trevor Crow (6-foot-0, 195 pounds) put up a slash line of .361/.476/.481 last season for the Lynx. He also filled up the scorebook with 45 hits, 25 RBI, 29 runs scored, eight doubles, three triples and one home run. Crow received all-region and second team all-state honors in 2011, and is another former teammate of Fischer.
